Dorothy J. Collier Community Center
118 East Utica Street
Buffalo, New York 14209
To provide quality services that educate, encourage, empower and support healthy, happy community members and a safe, stable, supportive community.
Dorothy J. Collier founded Friends Inc. in the late 1980s as Friends to the Elderly after working for several community groups to fill the gaps in services experienced by the community's elderly residents. Mrs. Collier led the organization as the Executive Director until her passing in 2010.
As a testament to Mrs. Collier's work and contributions to the Western New York community, the city of Buffalo named the former PAL the Dorothy J. Collier Community Center (DJCCC) in her honor.
Our Senior Social Care Program is funded by the City of Buffalo through the CBDG grant and Erie County Stay Fit Dining program. Through Stay Fit Dining, enrolled seniors are eligible to receive nutritious lunches for a nominal fee. Lunches are served weekdays from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. RSVP is required. Friends Inc. provides weekly activities aimed at reducing food insecurities and increased social and physical activities. Our seniors also enjoy our card players, arts & crafts, and sewing clubs.
Senior Social Care Program
In addition to our Senior Social Care Program, Friends Inc. provides food security through our bread and pastry pantry, and increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables through collaborations with the African American Co-op and Dash's Market. Our strategic plan includes the expansion of services with multigenerational programming that will positively impact the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) of all community members.
